Photographs by Paul Rowntree - Wartime 1 Uploaded 25/01/2014
A batch of prints from about 1941 - 42 probably from his tiny pocket camera. This include views of Barts and the Redhill County Hospital where he did his time delivering babies. On 7th May 1941 Paul delivered his first baby and was still at Redhill on his 21st Birthday on 27th May 1941. The Blitz in London had just finished a week before. The photographs of Gwen taken on 21st June 1941 must have been from after leaving Redhill and while he was working at Friern Hospital New Southgate. By this time Paul was an experienced sailor and his membership of a sailing club helped him with his application to go into the Navy as a doctor. This dream was blown by him getting German Measles followed by acute depression while working at York County Hospital in April 1943. Paul and Gwen got married in June 1942. There maybe more photographs of interest amongst the negatives found with these prints. |
