He married Helen Ouin and they had 5 children (Mary died early in life)
He was a supportive older cousin to Peter and Joan Dibdin writing to Peter at the time of the death of Lionel and Cecily Dibdin and subsequently being a source of advice to Joan. On many occasions she used to visit Helen and John at their home in Sussex.
