MR. J. W. STERLAND, J .P ., IT was not my privilege to have known him personally, but his life's work for the working class of his country is world renowned, and this Union treasures very much the happy relationship which he helped to build up between Its members and the firm of Messrs. Rowntrees. This country has not only lost a great social worker and benefactor, but also a great English gentleman, in its proper sense, and he leaves behind him a record of service to the community which each one of : us would wish to emulate.
